US Junior Amateur, Charlie Woods eliminated

Like most of the favorites, Blades Brown (photo) in the lead, the two French representatives present in Detroit overcame the first hurdle by finishing among the first 64 of the two rounds of Stroke Play of the US Junior Amateur on the Oakland Hills course.

Unsurprisingly, it was a player who has already recently shone on a PGA Tour tournament, Blades Brown (congratulated by Tiger Woods in the photo), who finished in the lead of the first phase of Stroke Play of the US Junior Amateur.

At 17, Brown, who easily made the cut of the Myrtle Beach Classic on the PGA Tour last May, is not new to this. Last year, he broke a precocity record held by Bobby Jones by finishing at 16 in the lead of the first two rounds of the US Amateur.

This Tuesday, with a card of 64, he completed the 36 holes of the North and South courses of the 2004 Ryder Cup site, six shots under par. Among the players to watch, we should note the excellent impression left by Ukrainian Lev Grimberg, who trains all year round at the Golf National Performance Center.

This promising young player, who has already made a name for himself on the DP World Tour by becoming the youngest player to make the cut in Belgium at the age of 14, finished 3rd. Brilliant at the Rocket Mortgage Classic in June, 15-year-old Miles Russells will also be one to watch for the rest of the tournament in Match Play, as will the two Frenchmen competing in this competition created in 1948.

Note the eliminations of two players who had already caused a sensation among the pros. The Englishman Kris Kim, to his advantage during the CJ Cup, and the Thai prodigy, Ratchanon Chantananuwat. Among the notable eliminations, there is also Charlie Woods.

Under the eyes of his father who came to support him, the son of Tiger Woods, himself victorious three times in this event (1991, 92 and 93), did not shine. After his terrible 82 the day before on the South Course, Charlie returned a card of 80 Tuesday with a double and a triple to finish his 2nd day.
