West Virginia Lands Transfer Commitment From Jayden Stone

The West Virginia Mountaineers have reportedly landed a proven scorer through the transfer portal that could play a huge role for them next season.

Hoop Scoop Media reported on Tuesday that former Detroit Mercy starter Jayden Stone had committed to the Mountaineers.

WVU has not announced an official signing.

Stone, a 6-4 senior guard from Perth, Australia, has one year of eligibility remaining after he started his career at Grand Canyon and transferred to Detroit Mercy before his junior season.

Last season he averaged 20.8 points per game, which led the Titans, was second in the Horizon League and was No. 22 in Division I. He also led the Titans with 2.7 assists per game and was second with 5.6 rebounds.

In two seasons with Detroit Mercy, Stone played in 40 games, scored 20 or more points 10 times, scored in double figures 31 times and five or more rebounds 27 times. His 18.8 career average for the Titans was seventh in program history.

The Mountaineers are building up under first-year coach Darian DeVries, who was previously at Drake, where he led the Bulldogs to 150 wins in six seasons, including three NCAA Tournament appearances.

He succeeded Josh Eilert, who was the interim coach last season after replacing Bob Huggins last summer after the Hall of Fame coach resigned.

DeVries as worked the transfer portal this offseason, bringing in his son, Tucker, who was an all-conference player at Drake. He also lured one of Oklahoma State’s top scorers from a season ago, Javon Small.
