While Neal Brown and the West Virginia Mountaineers had a much better offseason following the 2023 season than the summer before, they are entering their Week 1 matchup as 10-point dogs at home.
According to recent odds from BetOnline, the Mountaineers will kick off their 2024 season as 10-point underdogs against the Penn State Nittany Lions in Morgantown on Saturday, August 31st.

The Week One matchup is part of a home-and-home series between Penn State and West Virginia that kicked off the 2023 season in Centre County. The Nittany Lions took home the matchup 38-15 in a game that featured a dominant performance from sophomore quarterback Drew Allar.
While the quarterbacks for each team are the same, the expectations for both have drastically changed. Both teams have legitimate College Football Playoff aspirations in the upcoming season, thanks to some new changes and some old consistency. Penn State revamped their offensive attack by hiring one of the bright offensive minds in college football, former Kansas offensive coordinator Andy Kotelnicki. For West Virginia, things stayed consistent with Neal Brown back for another season after leading the team to a 9-4 record and a win in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl.
While the 2023 matchup between the two teams wasn’t much of an exciting game by the final whistle, the game in 2024 appears to be on a significantly more level playing field. The Mountaineers will host Penn State on Saturday, August 31st, at Milan Pskar Stadium in Morgantown.
