Which players have the most Masters wins?

The Masters is one of the biggest events in golf, and here we break down which players have had the most success at Augusta National.

The Masters is arguably golf’s premier event, with the greatest players in the world all vying to win the coveted Green Jacket at the world famous Augusta National Golf Club.

With a storied history dating back to 1934, the Masters has produced some fantastic champions over the years, from Jack Nicklaus to Tiger Woods and the favourite in the golf betting for this year’s event, two-time champion Scottie Scheffler.

With the 2025 Masters just around the corner, we have delved into the archives to look at the most successful players at Augusta National.

Players with the most Masters wins

1. Jack Nicklaus – 6 wins (1963, 1965, 1966, 1972, 1975, 1986)

Unsurprisingly, Jack Nicklaus, who tops the all-time Major winning charts with 18 victories, is also the most successful player when it comes to the Masters with no less than six titles.

The Golden Bear won for the first time at Augusta in 1963, holding off Tony Lema by one stroke, while his last Green Jacket came in 1986 when finishing a shot ahead of Tom Kite and Greg Norman.

2. Tiger Woods – 5 wins (1997, 2001, 2002, 2005, 2019)

With five Green Jackets to his name, Tiger Woods comes in second in the Masters charts, a position he also holds in the all-time Major rankings with 15 titles.

The legendary American won four times at Augusta from 1997 to 2005, but it was his fifth victory in Georgia in 2019, which is arguably his greatest achievement given how hard he worked to fight back from multiple injuries.

Woods also accounts for arguably the greatest Masters shot of all time, with his chip-in at the par-three 16th hole on the final round in 2005 sparking wild celebrations from Tiger, his caddy and the patrons.

3. Arnold Palmer – 4 wins (1958, 1960, 1962, 1964)

Third on the list is another legend of the game, Arnold Palmer, who landed the first of his four Masters titles in 1958 when edging out Doug Ford and Fred Hawkins by a shot.

Nicknamed ‘The King’, the American’s final Green Jacket, which turned out to be his last Major success, came in 1964 when he cruised to a six-shot victory, leaving both Nicklaus and Dave Marr trailing in his wake.

4. Jimmy Demaret – 3 wins (1940, 1947, 1950)

Sam Snead – 3 wins (1949, 1952, 1954)

Gary Player – 3 wins (1961, 1974, 1978)

Nick Faldo – 3 wins (1989, 1990, 1996)

Phil Mickelson – 3 wins (2004, 2006, 2010)

There are five players that have won the Masters three times, including Jimmy Demaret, Sam Snead, and Gary Player, but one individual who stands out for his success among this group is Nick Faldo.

Faldo was the first English player to win the Masters, overcoming Scott Hoch in 1989 in a play-off after Greg Norman blew his chances over the final round before he successfully retained his title 12 months later when seeing off Raymond Floyd in extra holes.

Faldo is just one of three players to have gone back-to-back at Augusta, the other two being Nicklaus and Woods.

Also on the list with three Green Jackets is Phil Mickelson, who won in 2004, 2006 and 2010 during a trophy-laden period for the charismatic left-hander.

His shot from the pine straw on the par-five 13th back in 2010 is up there as one of the greatest shots in the tournament’s history, as he cracked a six-iron between two trees onto the green with his second shot. An incredible moment.

5. Horton Smith – 2 wins (1934, 1936)

Byron Nelson – 2 wins (1937, 1942)

Ben Hogan – 2 wins (1951, 1953)

Tom Watson – 2 wins (1977, 1981)

Seve Ballesteros – 2 wins (1980, 1983)

Bernhard Langer – 2 wins (1985, 1993)

Ben Crenshaw – 2 wins (1984, 1995)

Jose María Olazabal – 2 wins (1994, 1999)

Bubba Watson – 2 wins (2012, 2014)

Scottie Scheffler – 2 wins (2022, 2024)

No less than 10 players have won the Masters twice, with current world number one Scottie Scheffler the most recent to achieve the feat with his victories in 2022 and 2024.

There are two Spaniards on the list – Jose Maria Olazabal and Seve Ballesteros – while Bernhard Langer remains the only German to have had the Green Jacket slipped onto his shoulders.
