Chase Briscoe is noticeably slimmer right now in advance of his debut NASCAR Cup Series campaign at Joe Gibbs Racing than he has been in years over at Stewart-Haas Racing and that’s not by accident.

The Indiana native told FOX Sports that Joe Gibbs Racing and Toyota has made fitness a priority since he joined the team during the offseason.

“I wouldn’t say Toyota as much as JGR,” Briscoe said. “I think it’s like there for Toyota, too, I know they have a nutritionist and all that. But it’s honestly been James (Small, crew chief) has been trying to get me way down.

“They wanted me down 15 pounds before the season started. I’m down almost 10. So, I was doing really, really good, truthfully up until a week and a half ago. So, I’ve been doing way better.”

That was not the case at Stewart-Haas Racing.

“SHR I could do whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted,” he said.

This is an important year for Briscoe, who after winning twice at SHR, including a dramatic Southern 500 victory over Kyle Busch last summer, now transitions to one of the top rides in motorsports. Championships are the expectation, or at least championship caliber seasons, and Briscoe and Small are looking for every advantage for their No. 19 team.
