Zverev Advances in Hamburg; Ruud Ousted in Bastad
Top seed Alexander Zverev advanced to the second round of the Hamburg Open on Wednesday, defeating Jesper de Jong 6-2, 6-2.
The towering German hit four aces, won 69 percent of his first serve points and broke the serve of his Dutch opponent on four occasions.
Currently ranked No. 4 in the world, Zverev will next face Hugo Gaston for a place in the quarterfinals. Gaston eliminated Facundo Diaz Acosta 7-6(4), 1-6, 6-4.
Zverev recently reached the finals of Roland Garros and won the Italian Open in Rome, Italy.
Other results on the day saw Luciano Darderi dismiss Alexander Shevchenko 6-3, 2-6, 6-3.

Nordea Open—Bastad, Sweden
Two-time former French Open finalist Casper Ruud was ousted in his opening match at the Bastad Open on Wednesday, losing to Thiago Monteiro 6-3, 6-3.
In a lopsided contest, Monteiro overpowered his Norwegian opponent by hitting 32 winners to only eight unforced errors during the one hour and 28 minute contest.
Monteiro, who has enjoyed his best year on Tour, has victories over Carlos Alcaraz, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Gael Monfils. He is currently ranked No. 85 in the world.
