Zverev Defeats Alcaraz to Reach Turin Semifinals

Friday’s action at the ATP Finals in Turin, Italy featured No. 2 seed Alexander Zverev reach the semifinals, defeating No. 3 seed Carlos Alcaraz 7-6(5), 6-4.

In a match that lasted three minutes shy of two hours, Zverev used his monster serve and elite backhand to hit nine aces and strike 29 winners.

Improving to 6-5 in his head-to-head matches with Alcaraz, Zverev will now await Taylor Fritz in Saturday’s semifinals.

Fritz advanced to the final four when he defeated Alex de Minuar in three sets on Thursday.

With his defeat, Alcaraz will now shift his focus to helping Team Spain win the Davis Cup Finals next week in Malaga, Spain.

Alcaraz will join Rafael Nadal in his final event as a professional player. The 38-year-old and 22-time Major winner will call it career after next week’s team event.

Still to come on Friday in Turin, Casper Ruud will attempt to reach the semifinals with a victory over Andrey Rublev.

Ruud defeated Alcaraz earlier this week, but lost to Zverev on Wednesday. Rublev has lost both matches this week to Zverev and Alcaraz.
