Zverev Reaches Paris Masters Semifinals; Shnaider Advances to Hong Kong Final Four

Friday’s action at the Rolex Paris Masters in Paris, France saw a battle of two former Major finalist. Starting the day in style, No. 3 seed Alexander Zverev advanced to the semifinals of the event, defeating No. 10 seed Stefanos Tsitsipas 7-5, 6-4.

Needing one hour and 41 minutes to advance, Zverev hit nine aces, 21 winners and broke the serve of his Greek opponent on two occasions.

Improving to 6-10 against Tsitsipas in lifetime meetings, Zverev will next face either No. 9 seed Alex de Minaur or No. 13 seed Holger Rune for a place in the finals.

Other matches that are still to come on Friday will include No. 8 seed Grigor Dimitrov vs. Karen Khachanov and Ugo Humbert taking on Jordan Thompson.

Humbert had the win of his life against No. 2 seed Carlos Alcaraz on Thursday in three, thrilling sets.

Hong Kong Tennis Open—Hong Kong, China

Friday’s quarterfinal line up at the Hong Kong Tennis Open featured top seed Diana Shnaider reaching the semifinals of the tournament, dismissing Suzan Lamens from the Netherlands 6-0, 6-7(4), 6-2.

Striking three aces and breaking serve on nine occasions, Shnaider needed one hour and 52 minutes to reach the final four.

The Russian will next face defending champion and No. 3 seed Leylah Fernandez. The Canadian defeated No. 9 seed Bernarda Pera from the United States, 6-1, 7-6(7).

Elsewhere, No. 2 seed Katie Boulter raced past Anastasia Zakharova 6-4, 6-0 and No. 6 seed Yue Yuan dispatched former Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin 6-3, 6-3.

WTA Finals Riyadh Kicks Off

Day 1 of the WTA Finals in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia is set to begin on Saturday. The best eight women’s players in the world are on hand for the biggest prize on the WTA.

Saturday’s action will feature top seed Aryna Sabalenka taking on No. 7 seed Qinwen Zheng and No. 4 seed Jasmine Paolini taking on No. 5 seed Elena Rybakina.
